The Health + Housing Connection
Affordable housing is an essential social determinant of health.
Growing up in Section 8 housing, Dr. Nash learned firsthand: "If your home life is unstable, everything in your life is going to be unstable."
This insight - validated through his MPH studies at Brown University and years of board service at Samuel Rogers Community Health Center - drives every project we develop.
Our developments don't just provide housing - they connect residents to healthcare, reduce mortality, and transform communities from the ground up.
Research-Backed Approach
1. Brown University School of Public Health
Housing stability directly impacts physical and mental health outcomes across populations.
2. Health Affairs Research
Housing interventions for low-income populations improve health outcomes and decrease healthcare costs.
3. CDC Recognition
Housing identified as key social determinant of health, linking where people live to health outcomes.
4. The Lancet Public Health
Healthy housing is affordable, suitable, and secure - characterized by warmth, dryness, and proper ventilation.
The Ville Wellness Campus
A groundbreaking $75M partnership with CareSTL Health integrating affordable housing with comprehensive healthcare in the heart of historic North St. Louis - one of the most underserved communities in America.
About The Ville
The Ville is a historic African-American neighborhood that was the center of Black culture in St. Louis from 1911 to 1950. Home to Sumner High School - the first high school for Black students west of the Mississippi - and Homer G. Phillips Hospital, The Ville nurtured generations of professionals, artists, and leaders including Chuck Berry and Tina Turner. The Nash Group is honored to contribute to The Ville's revitalization through this transformative wellness campus.
Partnership with CareSTL Health
The Nash Group partnered with CareSTL Health - a federally qualified health center led by CEO Angela Clabon - as co-developers to create the Ville Wellness Campus at St. Louis Avenue and North Newstead Avenue.
This 45,000 square-foot campus includes a state-of-the-art health facility plus 120 affordable housing units for seniors and low-income families - the Alumnus Gardens I & II developments.
"We're creating a place where the whole community learns how to be well."
- Angela Clabon, CEO, CareSTL Health
